“Let’s Build a Period-Friendly World Together” – Uniting Voices for Menstrual Health Awareness in Tokyo

Theme: “Breaking Barriers – Towards a Period-Friendly Society”

The event held on 31st May in Tokyo was a vibrant and impactful gathering that brought together voices from across generations and backgrounds to discuss menstrual health, break stigmas, and foster awareness — especially among the youth. It was also marked by two significant organizational launches that aim to create long-term social impact.

A Graceful Start

The event commenced on a spiritual and serene note with a beautiful Saraswati Vandana, performed by Paramita Das, invoking blessings of wisdom and knowledge for the meaningful discussions ahead.

This was followed by a soul-stirring violin performance of “Vande Mataram” by young prodigy Asmi Kundu. Her rendition set a patriotic and emotional tone, reminding the audience of our roots and cultural richness.

Soil evaluation and sustainable farming methods

Bihar is situated on the World’s fertile alluvial plain of Gangetic Valley which extends from the foothills of the Himalayas in the north to a few miles south of the river

Ganges as it flows through the State from the west to the east. Variation in relief, precipitation, vegetation, and parent rocks have resulted in various soil varieties due to the region relief features. The foothills of Kaimur consist of alluvial soil and are naturally fertile. But the soil becomes harder as one proceeds southwards. As one moves up the foothills, the soil becomes stony and poor in fertility. The Kaimur plateau is an undulating tableland having thin shrub jungles and the land is not very fertile. The proposed

work is to be undertaken for the analyses of the soil for its physical state, its constituents and the nutrients, present in the soil. Different physio-chemical characteristics of the Kaimur (formerly known as Bhabua) region of Bihar State have been determined using standard methods.

Bhabua district, located in the extreme south-western part of the State extends between the north latitudes 24 0 -54’ and 250 -20’ and east longitudes 83 0 -20’-00” and 83 0 -40’ and falls in the Survey of India toposheet no. 63 O and P. Kaimur district is a part of Patna division.

On Issuing the Handbook of Sangini

I am truly honoured and delighted to have been given the opportunity to lead this essential and much-needed initiative, Sangini that is an honest attempt of NOBA GSR to not only generate awareness of menstrual hygiene among rural community but also make sanitary pads available at the most affordable rate, right next to their doorstep.

Why do I believe that this is such an important and ground-breaking initiative?

Well I don’t believe in ground-breaking part, but mere ‘important’ is an understatement. Globally, approximately 52% of the female population (26% of the total population) is of reproductive age. In India, only ~36% of the 33.5 Crores menstruating women use sanitary napkins for their personal hygiene needs. 70% of our families cannot afford the sanitary napkins currently available in the market. And the most distressing fact is that 2.3 crores girls in India drop out of school every year as soon as they hit puberty between age of 10-14. With such stats even in 21st century, it would be unpardonable if we don’t take any corrective measures.

आज शुभ दिन है, भले हम चाणक्य की उक्त पंक्तियों पर पूर्णतः खड़े उतरे हों या ना हों, सफलता के इस पायदान को भोगने का तो हक़ नोबा जीएसआर का है।

चंद ही दिनों पहले की बात है जब मैं, पूरी सादगी, तन्मयता, सूझबूझ और निश्छल भाव से किये जा रहे नोबा जीएसआर के कार्यों को दूर से ही सराहता रहा। सबसे अच्छी बात ये लगी कि यहाँ सब समान है, ना कोई सीनियर और ना ही जूनियर। विचारों का सही मूल्यांकन भी तब ही संभव है जब हम अपने उम्र और अहं को परे रख दें और सामूहिक अथवा प्रजातांत्रिक निर्णय को अपनायें।

जी हाँ कुछ ऐसी ही शुरुआत थीअपने संगिनी की। एक ज़िद, दृढ़ संकल्प, किन्तु ‘पैसा ना कौड़ी बीच बाज़ार में दौड़ा दौड़ी’ वाली बात अक्सर दिल को कचोटे जा रही थी।

समस्या गम्भीर थी, आँकड़ो को देखते–देखते जब भी प्रतिवर्ष २.३ करोड़ बच्चियों को स्कूल छोड़ने पर मजबूर करने वाली समस्या पर नज़र जाती, तो इस सदी में अपने देश की ये हालत पर स्वयं को धिक्कारता रहा। अनवरत चली आ रही कुंठाओं से ग्रसित समाज का भुगतान अपनी बच्चियाँ ही क्यूँ भुगते?

Started missing those small interactions with your colleagues who impacted in a big way with a very small fine tunings to the software. Yes the life almost started sounding like a software program – buggy (probably due to lack of knowledge of all boundary conditions) yet achieving what it intended to do.
